The need
Adapting a score written for one instrument to another isn’t just moving notes: range, fingering, the instrument itself and the player’s level all matter. My working example is an arrangement for intermediate-level double bass.
What the system should do
- Import a score and identify voices and pitches;
- adapt to the range and constraints of the target instrument;
- keep an explicit link between original and transformed notes;
- produce a readable score and check that it’s playable;
- document the changes that prevent perfect reversibility.
Where I am
I’m working on the transformation method and first tests with real scores.
